The Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance (RLTO) outlines the rights and responsibilities of most Chicago tenants and landlords. The most common exception is owner-occupied buildings with six units or less. This ordinance outlines expectations related to subletting, security deposits, repairs, and more. We advise all students review this ordinance to become familiar with available rights and remedies in the renting process.
